Bayonetta video game adds anime film adaptation

Anime studio Gonzo is currently producing an anime film version of Platinum Games’ Bayonetta, a thirdperson action game directed by Hideki Kamiya. Bayonetta: Bloody Fate will be released in Japanese cinemas on 23 November.

Fuminori Kizaki (Afro Samurai, Basilisk) is directing, storyboarding and shooting the film, while Mitsutaka Hirota (The Prince of Tennis II, Tetsujin 28-gō Gao!) is providing the script. The staff also includes Ai Yokoyama as the character designer (based on Mari Shimazaki’s original game art), with Hiroya Iijima designing the angels, Katanao Akai designing the creatures and Takashi Watabe designing the guns. Mai (Avex Entertainment) is providing the theme song.

The cast has also been announced, and the characters will be voiced by Japanese actors:

  • Atsuko Tanaka as Bayonetta
  • Mie Sonozaki as Jeanne
  • Daisuke Namikawa as Luka
  • Miyuki Sawashiro as Cereza
  • Tesshô Genda as Rodin
  • Wataru Takagi as Enzo
  • Norio Wakamoto as Balder

Platinum Games is cureently developing Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U.
