New anime series Fairy Gone was unveiled today by P.A.Works, with the Toyama-based studio announcing that the fairy-summoning fantasy actioner is slated to debut this April.

Given the tagline “Once upon a time, fairies were tools of war…” by P.A.Works’ English language Twitter account, the upcoming series is set in the aftermath of a war where certain troops were given the ability to summon fairies to fight for them. With peace declared, these former ‘Fairy Soldiers’ put their unusual skill-set to use for a variety of different ends, from aiding the postwar government to working as an assassin.

Directed by Cells at Work! helmer Kenichi Suzuki with screenplay by Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash light novel author Ao Jūmonji, Fairy Gone stars Kana Ichinose as Mariya Noel, Tomoaki Maeno as Free Underbar, Ayaka Fukuhara as Veronica Thorn and Yoshimasa Hosoya as Wolfran Lowe. Meanwhile, original character design comes courtesy of Haruhisa Nakata, while Takako Shimizu handles their animated appearance.
