Season five of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. came to a fitting conclusion, overlapping with Avengers: Infinity War and promoting a new leader, as the newly released trailer for season six reminds us that “Agent Coulson is dead.”

We see that S.H.I.E.L.D. is now led by Mack (Henry Simmons), following the passing of Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). His team attempt to locate Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), who is “frozen out in deep space somewhere,” as well as combating a new threat described as “extremely powerful.” Plus there’s someone that looks a lot like Coulson that has never heard of S.H.I.E.L.D., carrying some unusual tech.

The show also sees the return of Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Elizabeth Henstridge, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward.

Season six will consist of 13 episodes, the first of which, Missing Pieces, is directed by Clark Gregg. The show is set to air after Avengers: Endgame hits the big screen, so may make references to the events of the film (and maybe Captain Marvel too, even though it’s set in the 1990s).

Season six of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs on ABC in July 2019 and is expected to air in the UK later this year.
