Men in Black: International, first trailer

Granted the very first attempt to bring Men in Black to the big screen was pretty good, but as the sequels continued, the quality nose-dived. Did anyone even bother to watch past part two? And the less said about the TV series, the better.

Lowell Cunningham’s comic The Men in Black was much darker and dryer than the family-oriented sci-fi comedy the movies were. In the comics, the MiB survey not only extraterrestrial activity, but paranormal and supernatural activity on Earth as well. They are allowed to maintain secrecy by any means necessary (including elimination); they also had a secret agenda: to manipulate and reshape the world in their own image by keeping the supernatural hidden.

However, the latest attempt to bring the franchise to the silver screen looks at the very least…interesting.

It appears as if Agent M (Tessa Thompson) the the MIB’s newest agent is going to be quite the go-getter as she takes it upon herself to prove the existence of the organization in order to join it. But when she arrives in London and becomes partner’s with Chris Hemsworth’s Agent H, the two quickly find themselves plunged in an international, and probably intergalactic, murder mystery that’s going to test the duo’s mettle.

According to IMDb, the film is a spinoff in the vein of Jurassic World (2015).

Joining them are Liam Neeson and Emma Thompson, who is reprising her role as Agent O from Men in Black 3 (2012). It’s directed by F. Gary Gray (Be Cool, The Italian Job and Straight Outta Compton) and written by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.

Men In Black: International lands in theaters June 14, 2019.
