The first teaser trailers and posters have been released for upcoming Made in Abyss compilation films Journey’s Dawn and Wandering Twilight, both slated to open in Japanese cinemas this January.

Recapping the events of last year’s 13-episode fantasy series about two children exploring an enormous and perilous cave system, Made in Abyss: Journey’s Dawn premieres on 4 January with Made in Abyss: Wandering Twilight following a fortnight later on 18 January.

Adapted from Akihito Tsukushi’s original manga by animation studio Kinema Citrus (Black Bullet, Barakamon), Made in Abyss’ cutesy ‘puni plush’ art style belies its dark fantasy themes, with orphan girl Riko and robotic boy Reg encountering plenty of body horror, horrific trauma and mutated monsters on their underground travels.
