We’re in the middle of a Stephen King cinematic renaissance. Last year saw the release of It, The Dark Tower and Gerald’s Game. Next year sees the release of It: Chapter Two, In The Tall Grass and Pet Sematary.

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer and poster for the upcoming adaptation of Pet Sematary. Initially adapted for the screen back in 1989, the new iteration stars Jason Clarke as Dr Louis Creed, who relocates to rural Maine, with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children, Ellie (Jeté Laurence) and Gage (Hugo Lavoie and Lucas Lavoie). Near their new home they discover a mysterious burial ground hidden deep within the woods. After an unfortunate tragedy, Louis turns to his unusual neighbour, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), which sets off a perilous chain reaction, unleashing an unfathomable evil.

The trailer hints at what is to come, with speeding trucks, an old neighbour offering wise advice (“Sometimes dead is better”) and children wearing animal masks.

Directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer (the duo behind the indie horror film Starry Eyes), from a screenplay by Jeff Buhler, Pet Sematary is scheduled to open in the UK and US on 5 April 2019.
