It was back in August that Ruby Rose was announced to be the new Batwoman (Kate Kane) for CW’s Arrowverse crossover event. Now the CW has released a promo poster giving us our first look of Rose in costume.

The CW made the reveal via Entertainment Tonight. In the poster, Rose has flowing red hair and is wearing the iconic cowl and cape, with the red bat insignia across her chest. The costume itself was designed by award-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood.

Back in August when Rose was cast as Batwoman, she said, “I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different.”

However, not everyone was happy with the casting decision. While it was revealed back in 2006 with DC’s comic series 52 that Kate Kane is a lesbian, the criticism and online trolls Rose had to deal with when it was announced she would portray Batwoman caused her to leave Twitter. Rose is still active on Instagram.

The crossover event between Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl begins filming later this month and will air on the CW on 9 December. A Batwoman series with Rose in the lead is also currently in development and is set to air on The CW in 2019.
