The content-sharing partnership between Crunchyroll and Funimation is to end on Friday 9 November, the two companies have announced. Since 2016, a cross-licensing deal has seen the firms share anime titles, with series streaming subtitled on Crunchyroll while the English dub airs on FunimationNow.

However, currently-airing simulcasts and series that premiered during the partnership will continue to be available on both Crunchyroll and FunimationNow, including fan favourites such as Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia. The two companies also reassured viewers that currently-announced home video titles will be released as scheduled and all existing pre-orders will be fulfilled.

“A list of select catalogue titles licensed via Funimation will be leaving Crunchyroll – likewise, the Funimation catalog will also be impacted,” Crunchyroll said in a statement to its users. “That list is currently being finalized between both parties, and we will share impacted titles with you as available.”

“A handful of dubbed shows will come off FunimationNow and several hundred subbed shows will soon be available on FunimationNow,” Funimation explained in an FAQ. “Beginning as early as this January, during our winter 2019 season, our intent is to make a selection of newly-acquired titles available in both subbed and dubbed episodes on FunimationNow.”

Funimation, which was acquired by Sony Pictures Television a year ago, will also be withdrawing from its partnership with US-only streaming service VRV, a subsidiary of Crunchyroll’s parent company Ellation. VRV will instead be teaming up with newcomers HIDIVE, with series such as Made in Abyss, Food Wars! and Bloom Into You coming to the service in the next few weeks and “their full catalog of 500+ titles soon to follow”.
