The official website for upcoming anime movie City Hunter has released a new promo video, along with new poster art and cast details. Set to hit Japanese cinemas on 8 February 2019, City Hunter is the latest adaptation of Tsukasa Hojo’s ’80s action comedy manga and is produced by Sunrise, the studio behind the Gundam and Love Live! franchises.

Sunrise also made the previous City Hunter anime, which include a trio of 1980’s series and a bevy of ‘90s TV films, and this new Shinjuku-set reboot brings back many of the original cast. Veteran voice actor Akira Kamiya returns as City Hunter’s pervy protagonist Ryo Saeba, who works as a ‘sweeper’ (a mix of hitman and private eye), while Kazue Ikura reprises her role as his statuesque partner Kaori Makimura.

City Hunter’s recent website update reveals that the pair will be joined by three more cast members from the original anime, with Yōko Asagami (also known by her pen name ‘Harumi Ichiryūsai’) voicing sexy police inspector Saeko Nogami; Tesshō Genda voicing muscular sweeper Umibozu and Mami Koyama playing former child soldier Miki.

Also making a return is long-time City Hunter helmer Kenji Kodama, who is heading up the project as overall director while Love Live!’s Takahiko Kyogoku and Aikatsu Stars!’s Teruo Sato act as co-chief directors. Meanwhile, City Hunter’s screenplay comes courtesy of Yoichi Kato, who also penned Yokai Watch, Aikatsu! and episodes of Magi.
