Chrono Trigger, also known as the best Final Fantasy game of all-time, is available to download now on PC. We jest, but this is seriously one incredible game.

Yesterday, Square Enix surprised us all by dropping the classic SNES RPG onto the Steam store. This ‘definitive’ version of the game includes the entire time-travelling adventure, plus two new dungeons, updated graphics and sound, updated controls and a new autosave feature.

In addition, if you purchase the game before April 2nd, you’ll get upgraded to the limited edition for free, which includes a medley of five pieces from the game’s soundtrack, digital liner notes from the game’s composer Yasunori Mitsuda and a collection of six wallpapers.

A quick heads up, though, the version of Chrono Trigger on Steam is actually a port of the iOS and Android version of the game originally released back in 2011. Reaction to this port so far has been mixed, with many fans disappointed by some of the shoddy presentation choices.

Smoothing on some of the game’s character sprites, tweaks to the game’s background art and changes to the UI have been poorly received, for example. It’s a real shame, as you can definitely see how the stylistic decisions have negatively impacted the character and charm of the game.

Nevertheless, if that hasn’t put you off, Chrono Trigger is available now for £11.99 on PC via Steam.
