Bioware’s Anthem delayed until 2019

Reports suggest that the release date of Bioware’s upcoming shared-world sci-fi shooter, Anthem, has been pushed back from the end of the year to early 2019.

Kotaku has spoken to multiple sources at the developer, who have suggested that the Autumn 2018 release window announced at E3 last year was “never realistic”.

The same report says that both of Bioware’s Edmonton and Austin studios are solely focused on Anthem to ensure it reaches a March 2019 release date at the absolute latest.

Other sources have also suggested that the game is going through some development struggles as they work to position the game in a market that’s recently faced a major backlash against both EA’s Star Wars Battlefront II and Bungie’s Destiny 2. Apparently, a serious rethink is underway as to how loot boxes and microtransactions will work in the game after the negative player response to other similar games.

Considering that last year’s Mass Effect Andromeda was such a commercial and critical flop too, there’s a huge amount of pressure on Bioware to deliver with Anthem.
