20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Alita: Battle Angel.
Set several centuries in the future, Alita (Rosa Salazar) is a cyborg found abandoned in the scrapyard of Iron City by Dr Dyson Ido (Christoph Waltz). When Alita awakens she has no memory of who she is. Learning to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield Alita from finding out about her mysterious past while her new friend, Hugo (Keean Johnson), offers to help her remember. With Alita determined to uncover the truth behind her origin, deadly forces come after her and threaten her newfound relationships. It is then that Alita discovers she has extraordinary fighting abilities.
Based on Yukito Kishiro’s manga Battle Angel Alita, James Cameron has been developing the film for years. Cameron is producing alongside Jon Landau with Robert Rodriguez directing.
Marvel at the incredible effects, say what you want about those eyes, and for fans of the manga, there are a few references in there. In case you’re wondering, the trailer is played to the sounds of Maggie Siff’s Lullaby for a Soldier (from Sons of Anarchy).
The film also stars Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Jackie Earle Haley, Ed Skrein, Lana Condor, Jeff Fahey, Eiza González and Michelle Rodriguez.
Alita: Battle Angel opens in the US and UK on 20 July 2018.
