Having already remade The Great Escape with chickens in stop-motion animated flick Chicken Run, is Aardman trying its hand at Escape to Victory? That’d certainly explain the football references in the middle of this trailer for Early Man, from the creators of Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, which sees the Bronze Age rub up against the Stone Age.

Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of courageous caveman Dug (Eddie Redmayne) and his best friend Hognob, as they unite their tribe against the mighty Lord Nooth (Tom Hiddleston) and his Bronze Age city to save their home.

Our fave bit of dialogue? “A cave man?” “A cave man.” “A CAVE MAN!”

Shot in Aardman’s distinctive style (always a treat – Academy Award wins for four separate projects don’t lie) the film will introduce audiences to an unforgettable tribe of unique and funny new characters voiced by an all-star British cast (including Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams).

A poster has also been released…

Early Man opens in UK cinemas on 26 January 2018 (AD).

UPDATE: Here’s a gallery of images that we’ve managed to hone down from 1.3GB to a handy viewing size for you. Someone get our PC a glass of water! On second thoughts…
