Lionsgate must be serious on delivering a quality live-action adaptation of Naruto, because according to the Hollywood Reporter, the film studio has brought in screenwriters Jon and Erich Hoeber to do a rewrite on the script.

It was first announced back in 2015 that Lionsgate acquired the rights to bring the young ninja to the screen. They have been developing the movie with director Michael Gracey, who is set to release his directorial debut, The Greatest Showman, later this year. Naruto‘s own creator Masashi Kishimoto also revealed that he is involved with the adaptation.

The adaptation already has four credited writers, Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair (Before We Go, Playing It Cool), and Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!). Jon and Erich Hoeber will be polishing the script, having previously scripted Lionsgate’s RED and its sequel, the blockbuster Battleship, and the upcoming action horror Meg.
