You thought the Dynasty Warriors series was just about hammering the attack button until every enemy was wiped off the screen? Well, you’d be mostly right. However, Koei Tecmo has announced some of the changes coming to the battle system in Dynasty Warriors 9 that should give you a few more tactical options.

Choice seems the be the keyword this time around. While there’s the main storyline for you to follow, you can also engage in skirmishes, clashes and special side missions as you venture across the conflict-riddled lands of China.

If you succeed in these missions you can make upcoming battles much easier by sabotaging supplies, intercepting scouts and messengers or routing enemy officers early.

Koei Tecmo has also revealed two new characters coming to the game. There’s general and tactician, Man Chong, from the kingdom of Wei, and the lightning-fast Zhou Cang from the kingdom of Shu.

Dynasty Warriors 9 will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. A release date is yet to be announced.
