And it is fiction. We checked. Seriously.
Entertainment Weekly are reporting that The Purge franchise, one of the never ending stream of Blumhouse success stories (See also Get Out. No, really, go see it. It’s brilliant) is about to make the step across to television.
The Purge movies are set in what is heavily implied to be a recently post-soft apocalypse America. ‘The New Founding Fathers’ have re established order by allowing a yearly Purge. During this period any crime is permissible and the streets of the country run red with a bloody mardi gras of depravity and violence. The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year have all done extremely well in theaters so the TV show has a built in audience already. It will also give the franchise room to grow and explore its world building, something which benefited Anarchy and Election Year‘s characters hugely.
No word on a UK air date yet but we’ll keep you posted.
