Scalebound rumoured to return as a Nintendo Switch exclusive

After cancellation at the hands of Microsoft back in 2017, Scalebound could now be returning as a Nintendo Switch exclusive if recent rumours are to be believed.

Nintendo Insider has sources that report the action-RPG from Platinum Games has been “resurrected” by Nintendo for release on the Switch. Absolutely none of this has been confirmed by any of the involved parties yet so don’t consider any of this concrete, but it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

If you’re completely unaware of Scalebound up until now, well, prepare yourself for this. It was going to be directed by Hideki Kamiya, who is most well-known for working on the likes of Resident EvilDevil May Cry and Bayonetta. The game itself was to feature a headphone-wearing and sword-wielding protagonist named Drew, who was accompanied by a dragon – yes, a dragon – on his journey.

Scalebound was set to be a bit of a departure from usual Platinum Games fare. The over-the-top action was obviously going to be there, but there was also a focus on the RPG elements and a four-player co-op mode.

Early press previews were mostly positive and there was a significant buzz around the game until Microsoft announced its cancellation in early 2017. It was due for release on the Xbox One and PC in 2016.

With Microsoft’s prior involvement in the project, it seems there would be a lot for both Platinum Games and Nintendo to work around in order to arrange a new deal that would bring Scalebound to Switch. We’ll be following this one closely.
