Between them, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety’s Justin Kroll have revealed the short list of candidates to play the young Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars standalone spin-off film. They have been whittled down from over 2,5oo actors who auditioned or provided audition tapes.

So the shortlist includes Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction), and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some) and Jack O’Connell (Unbroken).

There are rumours that the successful actor will actually debut with a cameo in Star Wars: Rogue One which will be released in December this year.

The Han Solo movie will be directed by The LEGO Movie helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller from a screenplay written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan . It is currently set for release in May 2018.
