Yesterday saw that over-rated annual American sports tradition – the Super Bowl. Along with three hours of televised game time – and by ‘game time’ we mean people standing around – roughly 11 minutes of actual game play, there is of course also the bloated spectacle that is the half time show…and the Super Bowl commercials. Yes, indeed, it’s the only day of the year when Americans don’t fast forward through the adverts.

Providing it’s a good game – this year’s was record-breakingly boring – and the New England Patriots are either losing or not in it altogether, commercials can potentially reach over 20 million people, worldwide. Which is why many movie studios see it as a perfect opportunity to schedule new trailers for upcoming releases. And this new was no different.

First up, a new TV spot for Toy Story 4 has been released, giving us a glimpse into the return of this beloved (and occasionally traumatizing) movie franchise. The new installment will take place in Bonnie’s room (Bonnie is who Andy gave his toys away to at the conclusion of Toy Story 3), including the introduction of a new character, Forky – a sentient spork – who is in an existential crisis and voiced by Tony Hale (Arrested Development, Veep).

As we reported when the first teaser was released, this sequel has actually been a long time coming. According to the blurb, Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.

Directed by Josh Cooley (Riley’s First Date?) and produced by Jonas Rivera (Inside OutUp) and Mark Nielsen (Inside Out), Toy Story 4 hits theaters June 21, 2019.

The film also features the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Estelle Harris, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Jeff Pidgeon, and Blake Clark. Toy Story 4 hits theaters on June 21, 2019.

While the trailer doesn’t give much away, according to the IMDB, Tom Hanks claimed that the ending was emotional and “a moment in history.” He also added that he couldn’t face the crew while recording his final lines because he got emotional with them. This came around six weeks after co-star Tim Allen said he couldn’t get through the last few scenes because of how emotional they were.

Tissues on stand-by.
