Coming courtesy of Manga Entertainment, this week’s big Blu-ray release is the first half of Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card. Featuring the first 11 episodes of last year’s sequel to influential magical girl anime Cardcaptor Sakura, Clear Card begins right where the late ‘90s classic left off. Heroine Sakura Kinomoto and friends are just starting junior high school – including love interest Syaoran, who has moved back to Tomoeda. After dreaming of a mysterious cloaked figure, Sakura discovers that all of her Sakura Cards have turned blank …but a new key and cards have also been awakened.

Made by animation studio Madhouse, Clear Card is directed by original Cardcaptor Sakura helmer Morio Asaka and features many of the original cast. The anime adapts an ongoing series by manga collective CLAMP, the famed four-woman group behind not only the Cardcaptor Sakura franchise, but also series such as Magic Knight Rayearth, ×××HOLiC and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle.

Also out today from Manga Entertainment is the 35th DVD box set of Naruto Shippuden, featuring episodes 445-458 of studio Pierrot’s best-selling ninja epic. This latest instalment sees the events within the dream world of the Infinite Tsukuyomi continue to play out, while back in reality Naruto and the others battle the revived Madara Uchiha.

Meanwhile, MVM Entertainment follows up its December Blu-ray release of the first season of Higurashi: When They Cry with the supernatural murder mystery’s sequel, Kai. As Hinamizawa’s bloody cycle of betrayal and murder continues, the 24-episode Kai mainly focuses on (actually not so) young shrine maiden Rika Furude and features story arcs exploring mysteries left unexplained by When They Cry’s opening series.
