Warner Bros. has released the second trailer for what’s guaranteed to be the highest grossing film based on a video game. Also, do click to enlarge the new poster, which features a few Pokémon hidden amongst the scenery.

Based on the Nintendo 3DS game, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu follows Tim Goodman (Justice Smith), who is looking for his missing father, Harry (Paul Kitson). Helping Tim with the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds), a wise-cracking, super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. After finding out that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with each other, Tim and Pikachu join forces, chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City.

The new trailer comes after Ryan Reynolds recently talked about immersing himself in the title role. New footage here includes Pikachu trying to battle Charizard, a sleeping Snorlax, another Mr. Mime joke and a huge Pikachu balloon exploding only to reveal a certain Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon. Plus, this is all played to the sounds of Bonnie Tyler’s I Need a Hero.

Directed by Rob Letterman (of Goosebumps and Monsters Vs. Aliens), the film also stars Kathryn Newton as junior reporter Lucy (who is seen briefly in the new trailer with her Psyduck), and Ken Watanabe as Lt. Yoshida. So confident are Warner and Legendary Entertainment that a sequel is already in development.

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu opens in the UK and US on 10 May 2019.
