PUMA has taken part in many collaborations that has seen the sports brand designing footwear with Hello Kitty, Transformers, Barbie and Sonic the Hedgehog. In a press release, The Tetris Company and PUMA revealed that they have partnered up to design trainers based on Alexey Pajitnov’s iconic puzzle game.

The Tetris Company posted a tweet announcing the collaboration. While there were no photos of the shoes themselves, there was a teaser image that was tweeted by The Tetris Company and has since been deleted, showing the bottom of the shoe, designed to look like Tetris blocks (image from Comicbook).

For PUMA, they wish to enrich their ongoing stories of reinvention, and that means, “partnering with influential and creative brands that push culture forward through innovation in design, style, technology, and more.” So by collaborating with The Tetris Company, PUMA believes that they are offering a shoe design that is “truly unique for sneaker enthusiasts and collectors.”

The collaboration is to celebrate Tetris‘ 35th anniversary this year. PUMA will be converting their RS (Running System) silhouette shoe with the Tetris theme, which will be known as the PUMA x TETRIS RS.

Tetris was originally released in 1984, but gained worldwide popularity when it was released alongside the Nintendo Game Boy in 1989. There have since been many iterations of the game released on just about every single format. The most recent versions being Tetris Effect on the PS4 with its ability to play in VR, and Tetris 99 on the Nintendo Switch, where you play online against 98 other players.

The PUMA x TETRIS RS range of trainers will be released worldwide in October 2019.
