Nintendo came through on their promise to deliver news on the next generation of Pokémon games by revealing Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield for Nintendo Switch as part of today’s Nintendo Direct.

As part of the video, we got our first glimpse at the new pair of games, including the England-inspired region of Galar that will be the new setting for both titles.

The three starter Pokémon have also been confirmed: there’s the chirpy-looking grass-type Grookey, a spritely fire-type rabbit named Scorbunny and a rather perplexed water-type name Sobble. Aw, look at poor Sobble, he’s so nervous!

The new footage also shows that you can wander around a number of rural locations, fight Pokémon in a giant arena and enter random encounters if you dare to stray in the tall grass – just like the classic Pokémon games of old.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch in 2019.
