Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario, is the latest special guest to be unveiled for March’s MCM Birmingham Comic Con. The holder of the Guinness World Record for the most videogame voiceover performances as the same character, Martinet has starred as the world’s most famous Italian plumber in more than 100 titles, as well as playing other Mushroom Kingdom residents such as Mario’s bro Luigi, Wario and Waluigi.

While Martinet made his videogame debut as Mario in 1995’s Mario’s FUNdamentals, his breakout came a year later with Nintendo’s release of the landmark Super Mario 64 – followed in short order by starring roles in Mario Kart 64, Mario Party and the original Super Smash Bros. The California-born actor has gone on to make the role his own, appearing in a vast array of games from classics like Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door to recent titles such as Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Party and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Although most famous as Nintendo’s moustachioed, Koopa-stomping mascot, Charles Martinet has also lent his vocal talents to a number of other franchises, with non-Mario credits ranging from Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance, Skies of Arcadia and Super Punch-Out!! to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time and last year’s Runner3.

MCM Birmingham Comic Con comes to the NEC on 23-24 March 2019. Tickets to the show are available here.
