The first teaser trailer has been released for Beastars, an upcoming anime drama about a murder at a college for anthropomorphic animals. Made by Orange, the studio behind Land of the Lustrous, Beastars adapts Paru Itagaki’s critically-acclaimed manga, which beat series such as Made in Abyss and The Promised Neverland to take last year’s prestigious Manga Taishō award.
Beastars’ story centres on Cherryton School student Legosi, a large grey wolf whose fearsome appearance belies his gentle nature. When Tem the alpaca is found brutally murdered and devoured, pre-existing tensions between the college’s carnivores and herbivores skyrocket. Legosi sets out to investigate Tem’s death and uncover the culprit – when he’s not trying to process his feelings for cute bunny Haru, that is!
The Beastars manga was picked up for Western publication by Viz Media late last year, with the first volume slated to hit shelves on 16 July.
