A whole host of new information was revealed about the upcoming Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers expansion at this weekend’s Fan Festival, including a new Nier-themed raid and a collaboration event with Final Fantasy 15.
Announced on stage by Final Fantasy 14 producer/director Naoki Yoshida, the Nier raid will be called Yorha: Dark Apocalypse. In even more exciting news, the raid will be made with the assistance of Yosuke Saito and Yoko Taro, meaning two of the original Nier and Nier: Automata creators will have significant involvement in the new content.
Elsewhere, after much speculation and many fan requests, a collaboration event with Final Fantasy 15 will also be coming to Final Fantasy 14 in the near future. Noctis will drop by into the world of Eorzea in mid-April with his car, the Regalia, in tow. Players will take part in a number of quests that will see them battle against magitek infantry, magitek armor, and Garuda. A number exclusive rewards can be earned for taking part.
In a jam-packed weekend of Final Fantasy 14 news, we also learned that Shadowbringers will introduce the new Gunbreaker class – a gunblade wielding fighter who serves as the tank role in the game. A new race will also be added to the game: the Viera. Anyone who has played Final Fantasy 12 will recognise the tall and rabbit-like folk.
Naturally, the Shadowbringers expansion will also add a whole host of new areas, a new main scenario storyline and other content to the MMORPG too. You can get a good idea of the tone of the expansion in the recently released trailer.
Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers is scheduled for release on PS4 and PC on July 2. Players who pre-order the expansion get early access from June 28.
