If you can’t get enough of Tom Cruise running and injuring himself, then you’ll be glad to know that there will be two more Mission: Impossible sequels on the way, with Paramount Pictures having announced the release dates.

The news was reported over at Deadline, with Mission: Impossible 7 expected on 23 July 2021, followed by an eighth instalment on 5 Aug 2022 (Tom Cruise initially teased the news on Twitter last month on when to expect more films). That they are opening a year apart suggests an overarching storyline, with part 7 potentially ending on a cliffhanger. Christopher McQuarrie will return to write and direct both films, along with Cruise reprising the role of Ethan Hunt.

Jim Gianopulos, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures commented on the news, saying, “We couldn’t be more excited to build on the massive success of Mission: Impossible – Fallout by reteaming with Chris and Tom on these next two films, following two successful collaborations.”

The Mission: Impossible franchise has accumulated over $3.5 billion worldwide. The last film, Mission: Impossible – Fallout was the most successful so far, having earned over $790 million worldwide.
