Work on Koji Igarashi’s 2.5D action RPG Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has taken longer than anyone expected. But the latest trailer tells us that the wait will soon be over, for the game will launch this summer.

A spiritual follow-up to Igarashi’s Castlevania: Symphony of the Night that was released for the PS1 back in 1997, players control Miriam, an orphan scarred by an alchemist curse which causes her skin to slowly crystallize. In order to save herself, and humanity, she must fight, craft and explore a demon-filled castle summoned by Gebel, an old friend whose body has become more crystal than flesh.

The latest gameplay trailer showcases a more polished game, which is proclaimed to be almost twice as big as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. As a homage to that game, we also see Miriam yell, “INVERT”, showing that players will be able to explore an inverted castle here too.

If you still want more, a minute of new footage was also shown in the latest Nintendo Direct.

The game has been in development since May 2015, following its successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over $5.5 million.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is set to arrive on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC this summer.
