Currently starring opposite Gillian Anderson in new Netflix comedy Sex Education, Asa Butterfield (Hugo, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) is the latest special guest to be announced for this March’s MCM Birmingham.

Butterfield plays the lead role of Otis Milburn in the critically-acclaimed coming-of-age comedy drama, which has already been renewed for a second season. The awkward teen son of renowned relationship therapist Dr. Jean Milburn (Anderson), Butterfield’s character teams up with classmate and social outcast Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) to start their own underground sex therapy clinic at their high school.

Since making his big screen debut aged 10 in 2007 British comedy Son of Rambow, rising star Asa Butterfield has gone on to play leading roles in a bevy of major movies, including Hugo Cabret in Academy Award-winning Scorsese film Hugo; Ender Wiggin in sci-fi actioner Ender’s Game; Jake Portman in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and Bruno in Holocaust drama The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

Most recently, London-born Butterfield completed production on Stephen Fry’s The Liar, in which he plays central character Adrian. Meanwhile, fans of BBC fantasy series Merlin will remember him as young Mordred – a role later taken over by fellow MCM Birmingham guest Alexander Vlahos.

MCM Birmingham Comic Con comes to the NEC on 23-24 March 2019. Tickets to the show are available here.
