VIZ Media has secured the rights to Akira Toriyama art book Dragon Ball: A Visual History, the US publisher has announced. Billed as ‘the definitive journey through the artwork of one of the most influential and popular manga series of all time’, the hardcover book is slated to hit shelves this autumn.

First released in Japan back in 2013, Dragon Ball: A Visual History is set to be issued under the VIZ Media’s Shonen Jump imprint, which also publishes the Dragon Ball manga series. The upcoming English language edition will feature full-colour artwork, rarely-seen sketches and exclusive creator commentary by franchise founder Akira Toriyama.

Originally running in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from 1984 to 1995, Toriyama’s Dragon Ball manga has gone on to sell more than 159 million copies in Japan and 350 million worldwide – making it the second best-selling manga series in history after Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece.
