Could we finally be one step closer to seeing the Uncharted movie escape from the perils of development hell? That’s what Sony will be hoping now that they’ve tapped 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg for an adaptation of the rollicking series of action games.

It’s been a long journey for the Uncharted movie so far. A multitude of different names have been attached to the project as directors, writers and stars only to swiftly leave it behind, including David O. Russell, Mark Wahlberg and Mark Boal.

Right now, though, the film has settled on Tom Holland to play a young Nathan Drake. It will serve as a prequel to the games and show the roguish adventurer’s first meeting with Sully.

Trachtenberg should be a good pick for the director’s chair too. He’s already well invested in the world of video games after directing a short film based on Portal and also directing the ‘Playtest’ episode of Black Mirror.

Here’s hoping this finally gets the Uncharted movie on track. Until then, though, we do still have the Uncharted short film starring Nathan Fillion in the role of Drake, which many saw as a perfect casting opportunity considering the Firefly and Castle actor appears to have mastered the sarky charm of the character.
