Netflix decided to use the countdown to 2019 to start their own countdown to the return of Stranger Things, releasing another teaser, this time revealing when the third season will arrive. There’s also the first poster for season three.

The poster shows the main cast admiring the 4th of July fireworks, with Will and Eleven looking back at something creepy from the Upside Down. Click the image to enlarge.

The teaser has no footage from the show itself, but uses Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special to countdown to 1985. However, the video is interrupted by static and delivers secret messages offering clues for die hard fans to decipher (“When blue and yellow meet in the west”). There are even a few words in Russian if you pause it just right. The image then slides upside-down. For a brief moment you also get a nice 8-bit version of the Stranger Things theme.

New to season three are Cary Elwes as Mayor Larry Kline, Jake Busey as local reporter Bruce, and Maya Hawke as Scoops Ahoy worker Robin.

Season three of Stranger Things arrives on Netflix on 4 July 2019.
