Back in June last year, when news first broke about CBS finally getting around to expanding the Star Trek universe and a new series starring Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Jean-Luc Picard, plus a mini-series and a new animated series.

Then, November last year, following the annual Star Trek: Discovery frenzy at New York Comic Con, news came that Michelle Yeoh was apparently in talks to reprise her Star Trek: Discovery role of Captain Emperor Georgiou for a stand-alone CBS All Access series.

Well, that’s now been confirmed.

Yeoh, as Captain Philippa Georgiou and then as the evil Emperor Georgiou from the Mirror Universe, was one of the most captivating parts of Star Trek: Discovery’s first season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it “further explore Starfleet’s Section 31 division, a shadow organization within the Federation featured on Star Trek: Discovery.”

Yeoh herself openly admits that she loves the role.

“And for Georgiou now, it’s a really interesting role, because not everybody knows that I was from the mirror universe. So, sometimes I get to play the good captain, which is always very nice. Compassionate, kind and then, with Philippa Georgiou from Section 31, she is, cunning, devious, and we’re all in leather, the whole time. It’s hot! I mean, it’s hot!” She said at last year’s Star Trek: Discovery NYCC panel.

Alex Kurtzman is being paid $25 million by CBS to oversee the subscription service’s Star Trek franchise, which will also include the Patrick Stewart-led Picard drama.

“Michelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades. As a human, I adore her. As an actor, I revere her. Erika and Boey are remarkable, exciting writers who bring a fresh perspective to the world of Star Trek, and we’re all thrilled to explore the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
