Portal Games’ hit tabletop title Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game is coming to Amazon Alexa later this year, the Polish board games publisher today announced. The 1-5 player deduction game already uses app-enhanced gameplay, but budding sleuths will soon get the chance to solve an entire case using Alexa, with the game’s sixth case ‘Suburbia’ being narrated by Amazon’s voice-operated virtual assistant.

“The release of Detective on Alexa is a part of an effort to bring board games to new players, and make the hobby as a whole more accessible,” the company explained. “At Portal Games we strongly believe that Detective’s easy rules will be perfect for the audio format, making the game similar to radio dramas. We hope that it will be the beginning of a new trend in the industry, aimed at expanding the player base.”

It’s been a busy week for Portal Games, with CEO and game designer Ignacy Trzewiczek announcing a slew of new board games and expansions to celebrate the publisher’s 20th anniversary. As well as garnering an Alexa edition, Detective snags its first campaign expansion in the shape of Detective: L.A. Crimes along with a Detective Signature Series line of expansions designed by top industry talents such as Rob Daviau and Mike Selinker.

Meanwhile, the popular Imperial Settlers range will be boosted by a trio of new products – Imperial Settlers: Empires of the North, a standalone card game featuring Scottish, Inuit and Viking factions; Imperial Settlers: Roll & Write, another standalone title that – you guessed it – taps into the current vogue for the roll ‘n’ write genre; and an Imperial Settlers: Big Box containing the original game plus all of its expansions.

Other announcements include upcoming Kickstarters for a third edition of fashion-themed strategy game Prêt-à-Porter and (working with Stronghold Games) a second edition of fantasy siege title Stronghold: Undead. Also on the cards for 2019 are a debut army pack for Monolith Arena and Sand Runners, a new army pack for Neuroshima HEX! 3.0.
