A new team of Ghostbusters are ready to believe you as Entertainment Weekly reports that Jason Reitman will direct another instalment in the Ghostbusters franchise.

However, the new film will be set in the same universe as the original 1980s films that were directed by his father, Ivan Reitman, who will serve as a producer. Jason Reitman has co-written a script with Monster House and City of Ember director Gil Kenan.

“This is the next chapter in the original franchise,” said Reitman of the new instalment. “It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”

There is no news on the story, the cast, or if any of the original cast will make an appearance. According to Variety, Reitman has been testing teenagers for the four lead roles. Also it would appear that this has been in the works for a while as Reitman said, “I want the film to unwrap like a present. We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.”

Distancing itself from the 2016 reboot that was directed by Paul Feig, Reitman said, “I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film. The Ghostbusters universe is big enough to hold a lot of different stories.”

The new Ghostbusters film will be shot later this summer. Sony Pictures plan to release the film in the summer of 2020.

UPDATE:
Jason Reitman took to Twitter to present a short teaser, saying, “I found the car.” It also sounds like someone is trying to fix a proton pack.
