Sunrise has unveiled a new trailer, cast details and artwork for its upcoming big screen anime adaptation of ‘80s comedy actioner City Hunter, as well as the film’s title – City Hunter the Movie: Shinjuku Private Eyes. Moving the setting to present-day Shinjuku, this latest reboot of Tsukasa Hojo’s manga about womanising hitman/PI Ryo Saeba and his statuesque partner Kaori Makimura opens in Japanese theatres on 8 February 2019.

Newly announced cast members include Marie Iitoyo as Ryo’s client, beautiful young model Ai; Kōichi Yamadera as Kaori’s childhood friend and company CEO Shinji; and Houchu Ohtsuka as big time arms dealer Vince. The trio join previously-revealed cast of veteran voice actor Akira Kamiya (Ryo), Kazue Ikura (Kaori), Yōko Asagami (Saeko), Tesshō Genda (Umibozu) and Mami Koyama as former child soldier Miki.

City Hunter the Movie: Shinjuku Private Eyes sees long-time franchise helmer Kenji Kodama return as overall director, while Love Live!’s Takahiko Kyogoku and Aikatsu Stars!’s Teruo Sato act as co-chief directors. Meanwhile, City Hunter’s screenplay is written by Yoichi Kato, whose credits include Yokai Watch, Aikatsu! and episodes of Magi.
