Developer Spicy Tails’ crowdfunding campaign for a virtual reality anime adaptation of merchant-centric fantasy manga Spice and Wolf is currently live on Kickstarter.
Having already raised almost £100,000, the Japanese dev. plans to adapt author Isuna Hasekura and illustrator Jū Ayakura’s popular light novel series about travelling merchant Lawrence and wolf spirit Holo as a VR animation for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, Oculus Go and Oculus Quest, while a non-VR version will also be available for PC.
Best known for VR murder mystery Project LUX and visual novel WORLD END ECONOMiCA, Spicy Tails is aiming for a May 2019 release date for the Spice and Wolf VR anime, with Hasekura himself writing scenarios for the title and Ayakura handling character design. Ami Koshimizu (Code Geass, Persona 4), who voiced Holo in the 2008 Spice and Wolf anime and its sequel, is set to reprise her role as the cute wolf girl, while Jun Fukuyama (Code Geass, Assassination Classroom) returns as the canny, money-minded Kraft Lawrence.
