The first trailer for the new Fruits Basket anime has been unveiled by Funimation, featuring narration by Maquia star Manaka Iwami – the voice actor who will be playing main character Tohru. Meanwhile, the upcoming anime’s official website has also started showcasing the series’ character designs, releasing art for Tohru, Yuki, Kyo and Shigure.

Produced by TMS Entertainment (Yowamushi Pedal, Megalo Box) and slated to air in 2019, the Funimation-licensed reboot will adapt best-selling fantasy romance manga Fruits Basket in its entirety, with original manga artist Natsuki Takaya providing ‘full executive supervision’ of the project. Fruits Basket was previously adapted for anime by Studio Deen back in 2001.

Directed by FLCL Progressive’s Yoshihide Ibata, Fruits Basket tells the story of high school girl Tohru Honda, who finds herself living with the large and eccentric Sohma family following the death of her mother. However, the Sohma clan live under a curse, with 12 of its members turning into animals of the Chinese Zodiac when stressed, embarrassed or hugged by someone of the opposite sex.

Tohru Honda (voiced by Manaka Iwami) & Yuki Sohma (voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki).

Shigure Sohma (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura) & Kyo Sohma (voiced by Yūma Uchida).
