“I died eleven times,” says Tree (Jessica Rothe) in the first trailer for the sequel Happy Death Day 2U, which has her dying over and over again.

College student Tree Gelbman thought she had solved the reason she was waking up and reliving the day of her murder again and again. This time, not only is she reliving her birthday again, but her friends are caught up in the time loop too.

The trailer was originally attached to the release of Halloween, but now Universal has released this ‘slightly different’ version online. From the footage, the sequel also appears to be more than just a horror, adding a sci-fi slant as Tree struggles to work out the reason why she’s stuck in a time loop. However, her attempts see her stabbed, falling off a building and getting caught up in an explosion. Spoiler – the trailer also gives away the identity of the killer from the first film.

The first film was a hit for Blumhouse upon its release in 2017, earning over $120 million worldwide on a $4.8 million production budget. Christopher Landon returns as writer and director, with the film also starring Israel Broussard, Phi Vu, Suraj Sharma and Ruby Modine.
