“When my people look up at the stars,” Saru says gravely, “They see only death.” So begins the trailer for “The Brightest Star,” the penultimate episode of Star Trek: Short Treks.

Check out the trailer and a photo from the installment, which will premiere December 6 on CBS All Access.

“The Brightest Star” continues the rollout of Star Trek: Short Treks, four standalone stories building toward the eagerly-anticipated return of Star Trek: Discovery.

Each short runs approximately 10-15 minutes and will be an opportunity for fans to dive deeper into key themes and characters that fit into Discovery and the expanding Star Trek universe – including Saru (Doug Jones), Harry Mudd (Rainn Wilson, who directs his segment as well) plus Aldis Hodge’s new character, Craft and Tilly (Mary Wiseman), these two of which we’ve seen already.

Sadly however, for the time being at least, these are only going to be available in the US, as Netflix won’t be showing them in the UK and nor will the Space Channel in Canada.

The first season of Star Trek: Discovery is available to stream in its entirety on CBS All Access in the US and Netflix in the UK. Season one is available on Blu-ray and DVD.

The second season of Star Trek: Discovery will comprise of 13 episodes with no mid-season break. It will premiere on Thursday, January 17, 2019, in the US and Canada, and in the rest of the world on Friday, January 18, 2019.

+ + + UPDATE + + + we’ve been getting some feedback from readers that this YouTube clip isn’t working in the UK…we can only assume that’s because the Star Trek: Short Treks aren’t officially available in the UK, so we can only recommend the use of a VPN to be able to watch this.
