Back in April Nestlé Japan launched a worldwide election allowing people around the world to put forward their ideas and vote for a new flavour of Kit Kat. The election was to mark 45 years since Kit Kat was first released in Japan. The winning entry has now been revealed.

Nestlé Japan’s Worldwide Election saw over 4,000 suggestions for new flavours ranging from Thai Iced Tea, Mince Pie, Jalapeño, Passion Fruit and Cotton Candy. The suggestions were finalised down to 21, with around 500,000 people from 81 countries participating. In the end, the winning flavour with the most votes was Strawberry Tiramisu.

According to Nestlé Japan, the new Kit Kat flavour has a bitter tiramisu style cream that includes coffee and cocoa, as well as real strawberry pulp, all coated in white chocolate.

The packaging for the new flavour is designed by artist Noritake Kinashi, whose own exhibition is currently on tour around the world. The packaging features a man and woman feeding each other Kit Kat while having a conversation, showcasing the bonds that Kit Kat creates between people.

Kit Kat’s Strawberry Tiramisu will be released in Japan first from 19 November 2018; available as a box of three bars for ¥120 (around 80p / $1.05), or a bag of 11 bars for ¥500 (around £3.35 / $4.40). The new flavour will then roll out worldwide soon after.
