Alongside Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian currently in production, Lucasfilm has announced plans for second live-action Star Wars series to appear on Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service, Disney+.

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced that Lucasfilm is developing a Rogue One prequel series, which “follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion.”

Rogue One star Diego Luna will return to reprise the role of Andor. “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna in a press release. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

According to the release, ”The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.” But we’re going to have to wait a while. Variety notes that Luna has to finish filming another season of Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico before getting returning to the world of Star Wars, so apparently the series will start filming next year.

We know from Rogue One that our valiant team of rebels died in their mission to steal the Death Star blueprints. So this is a great opportunity to bring back one of the fan-favorite characters from the vastly underrated prequel. Hopefully we might get to see K-2S0, another fan-favorite droid, make his return at some point too. The reprogrammed Imperial security droid (voiced by Alan Tudyk) stole just about every scene he was in.

No release date has been set at this time, but it’ll probably take at least a year or two before it hits our TV screens.
