Sony has released the first trailer for its upcoming remake of the PS1 cult favourite, MediEvil, giving us a good look at how the new version compares to the 1998 original.

MediEvil was an absolute classic of the PS1 era: an off-beat an often hilarious action-adventure game about the resurrected knight Sir Daniel Fortesque and his quest to stop the evil sorcerer Lord Zarok from taking over the kingdom of Gallowmere.

It was a bit of an awkward and clunky game, but it’s charm and the gurning face of its skeletal hero carried it with aplomb. Another positively received sequel followed in 2000, though there’s no word on whether Sony has plans to re-release that game too.

Going by the above trailer, though, it seems Sony and Other Ocean Interactive have gone to considerable effort to fix many of the dated gameplay issues in the original and deliver a modern remaster.

MediEvil is scheduled for release in 2019 for PS4.
