The first on-set photos for the upcoming movie adaptation of Capcom’s Monster Hunter series have been released online and they are absolutely nothing at all like what we were expecting.

Milla Jovovich, the film’s star, has been uploading the pics to her Instagram over the last few weeks, showing off a heavy militaristic influence on the usually more fantasy-aligned series. Is it all just going to be oorahs and assault rifles, then? Not so, according to one of the pics, which shows Jovovich wielding the iconic Slinger weapon from the series. You can see the full gallery below.

When the Monster Hunter movie adaptation was first confirmed back in May, the film’s production company envisioned an entirely new series all of its own, so maybe they’re wanting to get away from the setting of the games but maintain their spirit of hunting big monsters. A military thing is a bit…dull…though, to say the least.

Nevertheless, this is just a handful of images, so we can’t offer too much judgement either way yet.

Filming for the Monster Hunter movie began in September with the involvement Resident Evil film series writer/director Paul W. S. Anderson. A release date is yet to be announced.
