Castlevania producer Adi Shankar was already teasing a possible announcement, for back in October he posted on Instagram that he was “working with an iconic Japanese gaming company to adapt one of their iconic video game series into a series.” He has since followed that up with the news that he is developing a new animated series based on Devil May Cry.

In an interview with IGN’s Jacki Jing, Shankar revealed, “I have acquired these rights myself, so that the jabronis in Hollywood can’t f**k this one up too.”

He also revealed that, “Devil May Cry will join Castlevania in what we’re now calling the bootleg multiverse. Let the speculation begin.” So, maybe Shankar is suggesting that Dante and Nero will be fighting alongside Trevor Belmont and Alucard?

Shankar also took to Twitter and posted a picture of himself as Dante from Devil May Cry.

Shankar holds the fans and their love for Castlevania responsible for this move, citing how the vampire slaying series on Netflix “did crazy well. We immediately got greenlit for Season 3. I wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for the fans.”

Based on Capcom’s hack and slash franchise, there have been five games released (including the reimagined DmC: Devil May Cry), with the upcoming Devil May Cry 5 set to be released in March 2019. This would also not be the first animated series based on Devil May Cry. Back in 2007 Madhouse produced a 12 episode anime series, which takes place between the events of Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 4.
