Anime Limited gets strategic this week with a Blu-ray Collector’s Edition release for Japanese chess-themed series March Comes in Like a Lion: Season 1, Part 1. Studio Shaft’s adaptation of a manga by Honey and Clover creator Chica Umino, the 11-episode coming-of-age drama follows Rei Kiriyama, a teenage shōgi prodigy struggling with the pressures of life on the professional circuit. This special edition also comes with an A2 poster and a 40-page booklet featuring character profiles, end card collection and more.

Three other Blu-ray Collector’s Editions out today from Anime Limited are chilled J.C.Staff scuba-diving show Amanchu!, which includes a 50-page hardback art book and two sheets of stickers; GoHands fantasy actioner K: Return of Kings, which follows on from recently-released movie K: Missing Kings; and The Testament of Sister New Devil BURST, the second season of Production IMS’s devilishly ecchi series about a boy and two demon girls. Both K: Return of Kings and BURST are also available on standard DVD.

In addition, today sees the Glasgow distributor give the first season of Studio Deen yaoi romcom Junjo Romantica a subtitle-only Blu-ray release, while KyoAni comedy classic Lucky Star comes to Blu-ray as a complete collection.

Not to be outdone, Manga Entertainment kicks off the week with a Blu-ray release for acclaimed 2007 film 5 Centimeters Per Second. Named after the speed at which cherry blossom falls, the bittersweet love story is written, directed and produced by Makoto Shinkai, whose body-swapping romantic fantasy Your Name was the blockbuster anime hit of 2016.

Manga also delivers a one-two shonen knockout in the shape of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 1-5 Complete Collection and Dragon Ball Z Movie Collection 1-13 + TV Specials. Spread across seven DVDs, the DBZ box set features Dead Zone, The World’s Strongest, The Tree of Might, Lord Slug, Cooler’s Revenge, The Return of Cooler, Super Android, Bojack Unbound, Broly the Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly: Second Coming, Bio-Broly, Fusion Reborn and Wrath of the Dragon, plus a pair of TV specials – 1990’s Bardock: the Father of Goku and 1993’s The History of Trunks.

Meanwhile, MVM Entertainment brings the second half of The Asterisk War to DVD and Blu-ray. Featuring episodes 13-24 of A-1 Pictures’ action-packed harem show, the new release sees Seidoukan Academy student Ayato and pink-haired classmate Julis facing the strongest fighters from the other five schools in Asterisk City’s Phoenix Festa tournament.
