Tomb Raider Legends: The Board Game coming next year

While Lara Croft’s latest video game adventure takes her to the legendary city of Paititi within the rainforests of Peru, next year she’ll be making a wholly more pedestrian journey to our tabletops in Tomb Raider Legends: The Board Game.

Announced today by Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Hobby Japan Co, Tomb Raider Legends: The Board Game pits 3-4 players against each other to find out who is the best Lara Croft. How do you do that? Probably by amassing the most treasures from other civilisations, securing the most kills of endangered wildlife and avoiding the most spike traps. Or something close to that.

A look at the game board shows each adventure can be made up of a number of different locations, ensuring some variety between games. There also appears to be a number of different cards and effects that come into play depending on the actions you take, though without any significant details on the rules it’s hard to say exactly a game will play out. Nevertheless, each game should take around 40 minutes.

If you recognise the name Hobby Japan Co, they’re also responsible for the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game.

Tomb Raider Legends: The Board Game will be available in February 2019. Pre-orders are available now from the Square Enix Store at £49.99.
