Skybound Games to step in to continue The Walking Dead: The Final Season

Following the sad and sudden news of Telltale’s closure back in September, it was left unclear whether we would see a conclusion to The Walking Dead: The Final Season. The series was only just on the brink of releasing its second episode and the possibility of any further chapters was up in the air.

Now, Skybound Games, a division of The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s entertainment company, has said they have reached a deal with Telltale that will allow them to finish Clementine’s story.

The Tweet revealing the news was followed up with a blog post shortly thereafter with more details on the announcement. It reads: “Since Telltale’s closure notice, we’ve been spending long hours figuring out if we could help complete this game. And as of today, we are VERY pleased to announce that we are taking on the job of finishing The Walking Dead: The Final Season and seeing an end to Clem’s storyline, while working with members of the original Telltale team.”

According to Skybound, a lot of the finer details are still being ironed out, but this announcement is terrific news for fans of the game who were hoping the series wouldn’t be abandoned.

It’s also extremely pleasing to hear that some of the original Telltale team will be returning to finish the project. Their unexpected dismissal with no warning or severance pay is still a major point of contention within this story, so while the opportunity to work on the game with Skybound is some consolation, there is still much to be done for ex-Telltale staff who find themselves in a horrendous position.
