Military-flavoured magical girl manga Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka is heading to the small screen this January, the show’s debut trailer has revealed.
The anime incarnation of Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka will star Aya Suzaki (Release the Spyce, The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls) as titular high schooler Asuka Otori – aka, Magical Girl Rapture Asuka, former leader of an elite squad of magical girls who defended earth from invasion by cute-but-vicious supernatural beasties. When the world is threatened once more, the war-weary Asuka is drawn back into the fight alongside fellow magical girls Mia (Eriko Matsui), Kurumi (Akira Sekine) and Chisato (Ayana Taketatsu).
Made by animation studio Liden Films, whose romcom As Miss Beelzebub Likes recently debuted on Crunchyroll, the upcoming Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka anime is adapted from a manga series by Makoto Fukami and Seigo Tokiya. The series is helmed by Hideyo Yamamoto, director of Strike The Blood and The New Prince of Tennis.
