The internet is all in a bit of a tizzy this afternoon as footage has been leaked online of what looks like a new RPG game set in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Uploaded by the user ‘RastaPasta’, the video whizzes through a number of iconic locations from the series, including the Great Hall at Hogwarts, the Forbidden Forest and what we would assume is Hogsmeade.

We also get a glimpse at a character creation screen, which shows you are able to play as a witch or a wizard in the game and customise various elements of their appearance. You’ll also be able to choose between eight different wizard/witch types, choose your house, friends and even if you want to be good or evil.

Later in the video, the player character can be seen exploring a murky cave using the Lumos spell to guide themselves before getting into a fight with some goblins. Take a look at the top left of the screen during this scuffle and you can see a number of other spells available, including Expulso, Stupefy and Depulso.

There are also so impressive destructible environments, as pillars and walls crumble amidst the fizz of spells and explosions. There’s also a very brief shot of two wizards duelling in the grounds of Hogwarts.

The YouTube video description suggests the game is set in the 19th century – so during the same era as Fantastic Beasts – and describes it as a “3rd person open-world action RPG game [that] centers around your character with unique abilities who earned a late acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.” It also mentions that your character has the unique ability to track and identify remnants of an ancient power while uncovering the truth about your destiny. Ominous!

If it’s fake, fair play, this is an excellent mock-up. However, there’s a good chance it is real, considering Warner Bros was rumoured to be producing a new Harry Potter title. PC Gamer says that WB was helping to fill roles at Avalanche, who were looking for “a talented storyteller with a deep understanding of British culture and grammatical presentation.” That kind of fits!
